Our advice for anyone wanting to explore New Hampshire: Pick up a "NH Atlas and Gazetteer" by DeLorme - it's full of mapped details for New Hampshire. Also listings for campgrounds, state and national parks, golf courses, skiing, attractions, paddling waters, fishing, hunting, historic sites, scenic byways, hiking. We have found so many shortcuts, along with adventurous explorations because of this book.
If you love to travel off the main roads, then this book is for you. The campgrounds are also noted on the town/city areas so you can see in approximation if a campground you are interested in is on the water, near a town, near a RR, near attractions, etc.
Pick up the New Hampshire Atlas at Amazon at a discounted price!
You can also find the NH Atlas and Gazetteer at bookstores, department stores, pharmacies, etc. They sell them all over, so you should have no problem finding one. Usually under $20. They also have other state books as well. We have the Maine Atlas also. We recommend them very highly!
Also, pick up local freebie newspapers to get ideas and to find coupons for attractions in the area. Many papers also offer a schedule of regional events, like craft fairs, music festivals, car shows, theatre, fireworks, museum exhibits, etc.
