Mosquitoes Are Here

While waiting for our pizza order to arrive at the Pizza Barn, I had a chance to read the Saturday (June 4) edition of The Conway Daily Sun.

On the front page, there was a big article on mosquitoes and what we can expect in New England this season.

Mosquitoes are going to be in full force this summer due to the vast amount of rain in May. Standing water is breeding ground. The mosquitoes that are present now are actually from larvae already in development before the rain. The newest crop of larvae will invade in two or three weeks.

But there could be hope in later weeks. If it gets hot and dry, standing water dries up, and so do the mosquitoes if there is no place for them to breed.

The article suggests wearing light clothing; mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors. And try to wear long pants and long sleeves to prevent being bitten. Citronella candles can also sometimes be beneficial, but DEET is the most effective repellent.

  1. Is the Pizza Barn any good? We ride by there every now and then and was wondering?

The bugs were really bad at Danforth Bay but I didn’t think the black flies were as bad this weekend.

  2. Hey Bob!!!
We usually go to the Pizza Barn on almost every trip to the Ossipee area. Best pizza in town!

I believe I have a specific review on our restaurant reviews page.
