October is Fire Safety Month!
Fire safety isn’t just for your home or office. It is just as important while on the road camping.
- Make sure to test and update the smoke alarm (and gas detector) batteries in your camping trailers and RV’s!
- Keep campfires low and away from brush, trees, automobiles, and your trailer/awning. Most campgrounds enforce a rule that fires must be out by a certain hour. Keep yourself and neighbors safe and comply with this rule!
- Do not burn plastics or other toxic materials. Besides poisoning the air you breath, it is a fire hazard.
- Don’t get into the habit of using lighter fluid every time you light a fire. Use it only when absolutely necessary.
- Never leave your fire unattended, & make sure it is out completely before going to bed.
- Do not move the fire ring on your campsite.
- When cooking on a BBQ, keep the grill away from your trailer and awning. Yes, there are certain grills that attach to the side of the popup or trailer, but we don’t recommend their use. Flair-ups can melt your awning and the heat can damage your trailer. Take great care where you cook.
- Keep fire extinguishers nearby and make sure all family members know where they are located and how to use them.
- When using propane/gas stoves, make sure the area is well ventilated.
