Well it’s about that time when all good Northeast campers begin to winterize their RV’s and get ready for the long winter months ahead. The leaves are turning, the air is crisp and the first snow fall will be here before you know it!
So, let’s all bundle up, drink a mug of warm cocoa, and sit around the virtual campfire to share our favorite memory (or memories) of the 2006 camping season.
I’ll start.
We have so many wonderful memories this year, but I think the one that stands out is our trip to Danforth Bay in May for Pets Weekend. Our niece was with us, and since she is getting older, she doesn’t have time to camp with us very often anymore, so this was a special trip.
Mindy our Rat Terrier also had a great time. She loves competing and won a ribbon for Musical Chairs.
We walked a lot, laughed a lot, ate some great food at the Pizza Barn, and had a really nice time. Danforth Bay is great in the peak summer months, but there is definitely fun to camp on the off-season months in spring and fall. I like camping in the chillier months, it feels so cozy!
So, now it is your turn.

This summer was the first time we went camping as a family. We felt the kids were finally old enough and so we looked around and chose Danforth Bay. We are very happy that we did! Probably one of my favorite memories would be when we rented a boat and went out onto the lake. The kids were excited because they had never been on a boat and it was an experience I will never forget as a family
Also at night sitting around the fire after the kids went to bed just my husband and I. It was nice to reconnect
Posted by Julie on 10/14/06Oh Julie, you reminded me of other wonderful memories this season. We bought a kayak, and we had the best time paddling! The water ways around DB are fantastic. We really connected with nature!
Posted by That's Camping in the Northeast on 10/15/06Favorite camping memory, my 8 year old son riding the front car on Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. The ride goes from 0 to 120 in about 4 seconds and shoots you down a track then straight up 420 feet, over the top and then down again. He did not realize he was in the front car line, but he rode anyway. The nervous, scared, but determined look on his face is still implanted in my memory.
Posted by Flintstones on 11/14/06We had plans to camp with our friends: Dave, Cathy & Karrie the weekend of 06/23 to 06/25. We were scheduled to camp at Greenfield State Park so that we could be close to our daughter, Sarah, who was doing an overnight camp for the Girl Scouts at Anne Jackson camp in Wilton (Camporee weekend - a Saturday night only stay). We all watched the weather reports during the week. The weekend was shaping up to be even more horrible than the first weekend of June (a trip we had to cancel) - strong winds, heavy rains, etc., etc. We decided to cancel yet another weekend of camping but changed the venue.
On Friday, we planned on doing an indoor camping dinner at the Cormier’s house. Upon arrival, we noticed a sign on their front door - Welcome to Camp Woosey, Closed during bad weather. Upon entering Dave had on the TV news which was reporting the weekend weather. It was changing for the better. This didn’t sit well with all of us. Then we noticed a sign on their TV console - Pit Toilets with an arrow pointing down the hall to their bathroom. The activities for the evening were posted on yet another sign at the back door - Horse Fun Adventures. Please wear shoes, meet Karrie. Also pool and horses in the back yard.
After our meal, we sat down for an indoor game of Balloon Lagoon. After that we went outside with umbrellas in hands and toasted marshmellows using Dave’s grill.
We had a fun filled evening at Camp Woosey and hope that we never return again. We learned our lesson, never trust the weather person. New England weather always changes at the last minute. The storm didn’t even come close to NH as they had predicted.
Now our daughter, Sarah, even went further with this camping experience. She had us blow up the mattress and she took out her sleeping bag and slept on the living room floor. She took a coffee can and filled it with pink tissue paper to make it appear like a campfire. How creative.
The next day she had her overnight camping trip and we again stayed home in our bed and dreamt that we were camping. The weekend weather turned out to be fantastic.
