After we left South Arm Campground, we took the long trek to Wiscasset, Maine in the Mid Coast area. Our next stop was Chewonki Campground.

When we first drove in, the views were tremendous. We stopped at the office to register, and the owner was just lovely. So friendly and made me feel right at home.

We stayed on site #18. The view was breathtaking. Rolling grassy hills. And a peaceful calm atmosphere. The campground is located on a tidal river and there is a boat launch and little boat dock.

After getting settled, we took a walk to the salt water pool. Brr, very cold, but Mike and our niece braved the chill and swam for an hour or so. Since it was her last night with us, we took her out to dinner to The Taste of Maine restaurant closeby. On the expensive side, but the food was adequate. Don’t think we will return to that restaurant again.

After our niece went home the following day, we took a trip to Freeport. LL Bean of course and a few other shops. We also purchased a new Maine Atlas and Gazetteer which was updated to display the changes to the Route and Exit numbers.

The following day was Thursday and our week was coming to an end shortly. We took the drive up north to Camden and Belfast. (Photos coming very soon!) Camden is my favorite Maine coastal village, and I love the waterfall. I was disappointed that the Bears were not on display this year in Belfast, but it was charming as ever anyway.

We spent a couple of hours in Boothbay Harbor on Saturday. That is also a great harbor town. We found a wonderful restaurant on Rt 27 (near jct Rt 1) called Tammy’s Kitchen. Great food and great prices.

We were sad to come home, but well-rested and happy to have such wonderful memories from the week!
