2009 New England Country Fairs

It’s time for country fairs! Here is our annual list of New England (and Northeast) Country Fairs, updated for the 2009 season.
It’s very interesting, in comparison to 2008 New England country fairs, a lot are scheduled a week or so later this year.

New Hampshire Fairs
- Deerfield NH Fair dates: Oct 1-4, 2009. This was a fun fair. We went a few years ago. I think I might like to check this one out again this season too. From Massachusetts, it’s less than an hour and half ride, and could be a great day trip! Google Map
- Rochester NH Fair dates: Sept 18-27, 2009. We have never attended this fair, but I think my husband would love it. Looking at their web site, it looks like they have monster truck shows. Could be very fun. Rochester NH is also a fairly quick drive from Massachusetts. Check their web site for discounted tickets to purchase in advance. Google Map
- Sandwich NH Fair dates: Oct 10-12, 2009 (Columbus Weekend) - This is another wonderful fair, with lots of horse shows, I also love the llamas. Google Maps
- Hopkinton NH Fair dates: Sept 3-7, 2009. Sounds like a fun fair, we have never been. It’s close enough for a day trip, so we might check it out! Google Map
- North Haverhill Fair in North Haverhill, NH - July 22-26, 2009
Maine Country Fairs
- Fryeburg Maine Fair dates: Oct 4-11, 2009 - Gotta go to this country fair at least once in your life. Google Map
- The Oxford Maine Fair dates: Sep 13-19, 2009 - haven’t attended this one yet. Google Map
- Waterford’s Worlds Fair in Waterford, Maine - July 17 - 19, 2009 - Google Map
- Ossipee Valley Fair in South Hiram, Maine - missed the fair in 2009, but the dates for 2010 are July 8 - 11.
- Pittston Fair in Gardiner (Pittston), Maine - July 24-26, 2009 - Google Map
- Topsham Fair in Topsham, Maine - August 9-15, 2009 - Google maps
- Skowhegan State Fair in Skowhegan, Maine - dates: Aug 13-22, 2009 - Google Maps
- Acton Fair in Acton, Maine - dates: Aug 27-30, 2009
- Farmington Fair in Farmington, Maine - Sept 20-26, 2009 - Google Maps
- Bangor State Fair in Bangor, Maine - dates: July 31-Aug 9, 2009 - Too much emphasis on the midway at this fair, although they had great 4H activities, there wasn’t enough of a “natural” country feel. We won’t return. Google Maps
Massachusetts Fairs
- The Big E dates: Sep 18-Oct 4, 2009 - A long standing Massachusetts fair. Many years ago, we camped nearby and spent the day. It’s a huge fair, almost too “commercial” - Google Map
- Topsfied MA Fair dates: Oct 2-12, 2009 - This was my first country fair. My husband Mike took me so many years ago. Funny how I have never been before I met him! I love this fair. Close to home, so we like to go during the week. I love the Flowers building, and the farm animals are awesome. Google Map
- The Bolton Fair in Lancaster/Bolton, MA. From August 12th - 16th, 2009. Google Maps
- Marshfield Fair - August 21-30, 2009 in Marshfield, MA
Country Fairs in Other States
- Vermont State Fair in Rutland VT. dates: Sept 4-13, 2009. I had not heard of this fair until this year. Google Map
- Erie County Fair is very large fair in Hamburg, NY. August 12-23, 2009 - camping is available at the fairgrounds. Thanks to Lori for emailing me info on this
