Adventure World RV

Posted on May 26, 2004

I read this article about Adventure World RV dealership in the Boston Globe today. What a shame. They refinianced new loans, without paying off older loans. Oh I hope they throw the book at these horrible people! Stealing, last time I looked, was a crime!  Looks like their membership to the Better Bus Bureau was also revoked in April, 2004 as well. Please please, do your homework! Before doing Read more

There is a huge problem with Asian longhorn beetles invading trees in New England. Did you know that New Hampshire and Vermont are now banning wood from out of state sources, so they can combat the problem? From Wikipedia: The Asian Longhorn Beetle is considered an invasive species in North America, where it is a serious threat to many species of deciduous hardwood trees. During the larval Read more

Blocking out that Campground Noise!

Posted on Jul 15, 2003

Have you recently been to a great campground, and had a fantastic time during the daylight hours? The view from your site is great, the bathrooms are spotless, and your children are having a blast with the activities. Everything seems to be just great, until you try sleeping. Either you have noisy neighbors, the highway is too loud or maybe the birds got you up at 5am. We recently found a little Read more

Camping and Thunderstorms

Posted on Jul 20, 2006

Ron, one of our regular forum contributors, suggested that we should talk about what to do when a thunderstorm hits while you are camping. I agreed that it is an important topic, so I dug around google for some links: thunder storm camping safety - this one can be printed out. Keep it with you while you are camping. Lots of good information on thunder & lightening along with camping in Read more

Camping Responsibility

Posted on Aug 14, 2007

I pose this question to all of you. True or False? You are responsible for your own pleasant camping experience AND you are responsible for the pleasant experience of the other campground guests. The campground owners and staff can only do so much, it is up to each camper to be courteous and respectful. Do not litter on your site or anywhere around the campground. Don’t burn toxic materials, Read more

Camping with a Bird (Parakeet)

Posted on Feb 28, 2004

Our budgie Jack loves to go camping with us in our travel trailer, so I thought I would share a few tips with you about camping with a parakeet. We have two cages for Jack (actually three if you include the one for the house.) We use a small travel size cage for driving in the car. We buckle him up safely in the back seat using the seatbelt. I don't add any hard toys in the cage so he won't get Read more

Camping with a Cell Phone?

Posted on Mar 11, 2004

Do you take your cell phone along when camping? And do you get service at most campgrounds? This is absolutely not an ad for them, but we rarely have any problems connecting with our cell phone and we use Verizon Wireless. We have been using Verizon for years, and they are getting better and better. Their service is awesome. I know many times we have camped, and our friends and family have no Read more

Check For Available Campsites in NH

Posted on Apr 03, 2005

New Hampshire Campground Associations’ web site now offers Holiday/Event Weekend Site Availability Search. Find out which campgrounds have sites available for the upcoming season for Memorial Day, Bike Week, 4th of July, July Nascar Race, Labor Day, September Nascar Race, Highland Games, and Columbus Day. I don’ t know how up to date the database is, but it is a fantastic idea if it Read more

Confirm Reservations!

Posted on Jul 26, 2004

Just a quick tip. Always call the campground a few days ahead of time to confirm your reservations. You never know when something might have messed up, and it might be easier to try to fix it on the phone during a less busy time during the week than at check-in time on a busy Friday or Saturday. Happy Read more

Fire Safety When Camping

Posted on Oct 05, 2004

October is Fire Safety Month! Fire safety isn’t just for your home or office. It is just as important while on the road camping. Make sure to test and update the smoke alarm (and gas detector) batteries in your camping trailers and RV’s! Keep campfires low and away from brush, trees, automobiles, and your trailer/awning. Most campgrounds enforce a rule that fires must be out by a certain hour. Read more

Great Pet Podcast(s)

Posted on Jun 25, 2009

Found a great dog podcast recently. "Wynn with dogs" - the latest show #15 includes an interview with Holistic health expert and author of “the Healing Art of Pet Parenthood”, Nadine M. Rosin. Nadine's story almost made me cry a few times. So emotional and touching! On the whole, the podcast is good, it's a bit 'over produced' in a few areas, but the content is good, and the host is very Read more

Kancamagus Highway Construction

Posted on Jun 20, 2005

On Thursday (June 16), we took a long drive along Rt 112, the Kancamagus Highway. There was major road construction from the Bear Notch Road area to the Rocky Gorge. In fact, the Rocky Gorge was closed while they were working on the parking lot. It looks like the construction will be going on for a good portion of the summer, so be prepared for delays if you are traveling on this section of the Read more

Maine Highways Change!

Posted on Aug 23, 2004

If you were traveling in Maine recently, you might have noticed the new exit numbers along with the re-arranged highway routes. ugh!! What a hassle! Route 95 along the coast is now called Rte 295 and the Maine Turnpike that used to be named Rte 495 is now called Rte 95. State exit numbers have all changed as well. The exits coincide with the mile markers. So, if you are at mile marker 20, the Read more
